Description
In this clip , Dorothy Bolden talks about her life as a domestic worker in Atlanta , Georgia . She describes the harsh conditions under which domestics worked in addition to the lack of compassion and respect they received from their employers . Bolden also mentions that she was very outspoken , and that once she was sent to a psychiatric hospital following an altercation with wife of her employer .

Dorothy Lee Bolden Thompson (October 13, 1923 or 1924-July 14, 2005) served as a domestic worker in Atlanta for 41 years. In the 1960s, she became an advocate for working women and the working poor and founded the National Domestic Workers Union of America, Inc. in 1968.
