About this collection

Map collection, 1871-1959 (VIS 290)

This collection contains maps published by the city of Atlanta, the state of Georgia, and by private companies that depict representations of the city of Atlanta and its suburbs. Generally, the maps depict street names, place names, neighborhoods, city limits, railroads, and other common features. In rarer cases, maps illustrate settlement patterns according to race; infrastructure additions such as sewers, sidewalks, paved streets and water mains; trackless trolleys, bus lines, and rapid transit routes; zoning; house numbering; census tracts; land lots and district numbering; land use; population density; public housing locations; annexation patterns; topographical features and locations of proposed interstates.

The Map collection contains 1467 Atlanta city maps and plat maps for properties in Fulton, DeKalb, and Cobb counties. Seventy-eight Atlanta city maps are digitized and available on this database.
